About Me

Welcome! I'm Sumaiya -  a registered social worker/ psychotherapist and writer based in Toronto, Ontario.

Reaching out for support is no easy feat. It takes a level of awareness, willingness and courage to walk into the unknown.

My approach as a social worker/psychotherapist is to provide you with a private space to explore your concerns and offer tools/strategies that build on the strengths you already have, to make the changes you wish to see.

My practice is strengths-based, person-centered, and anti-oppressive. Have a look around my website and feel free to reach out if you'd like to do therapy with me.

As I'm also a writer, so you'll also come across some of my writer activities on this site.

Sessions

Are sessions available in-person, over the telephone or video?

I offer telephone, video, and in-person sessions. Video sessions are held over a confidential and secure platform. The confidentiality guidelines apply for telephone sessions.

What is your current availability?

I am currently available for day time, evening and weekend appointments.

What types of services do you provide?

I provide "talk therapy" which means I work with you to examine thoughts, emotions, and behaviours (as well as deeper existential experiences) and determine what is working or not working in helping you meet your goals, and the skills you can leverage to get you where you would like to be.

Currently, I am providing one-hour individual therapy sessions for children, adolescents and adults. I have a sliding scale for those who cannot afford full fee therapy or do not have insurance.

Over the last 15 years, I have gained some valuable skills and knowledge working in policy, research, programming, strategy, communications and direct clinical work. In addition to the technical skills involved in these areas of work, I have subject-matter knowledge on anti-oppressive educational programming and communications. I also have personal, lived and professional experience in the area of addressing gender-based violence and Islamophobia using approaches that are culturally sensitive and faith-oriented.

Please feel free to reach out to me through the form below, to connect with me about collaboration opportunities.
